West Brom manager Slaven Bilic has identified Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi as a transfer target if the Baggies are promoted to the Premier League.
The print edition of Turkish newspaper Aksam reported [via Sport Witness] that Albion are likely to approach the Istanbul-based club with an offer for the Kosovo international, who is valued in the region of €20m (£18m) by his current employers.
Muriqi, a powerhouse of a striker at 1.94m (6 ft 5), has been in fine form for Fenerbahce this season, netting 15 goals in 28 games in all competitions. The 26-year-old impressed for Kosovo when they lost 5-3 to England in Euro 2020 qualification last year, scoring one goal and setting up their other two at St Mary’s.
His form of recent months is no flash in the pan, either, as he struck 17 goals last season for Caykur Rizespor and managed the same tally in 2015/16 for Giresunspor. [via TransferMarkt]
Unsurprisingly given his height, Muriqi is excellent in the air, winning five headers per game, while his shoot-on-sight instincts are reflected in a match average of 3.6 shots. He is also well able to pick out a clever ball, averaging 1.5 key passes per game. [via WhoScored]
It’s easy to see why Bilic is so keen to bring Muriqi to The Hawthorns – he has five goals more this term than West Brom’s leading scorer Hal Robson-Kanu, and if that means jettisoning some of his current forwards, so be it.
The man perhaps most at risk is Kenneth Zohore, the £8m arrival from Cardiff last summer whose first season with the Baggies has not gone to plan. A modest return of three goals in 15 league games seems rather underwhelming given the fee paid for him, with injuries and an inability to hold down a place in the team causing some Albion fans to lose patience with him.
Should Kenneth Zohore be sold to make way for Vedat Muriqi?
The combined 19-goal tally of Robson-Kanu and Charlie Austin might merely see them reduced to backup roles if Muriqi is signed, but the Danish striker could be the fall guy if Bilic decides that he needs to sell before spending £18m on the prolific Kosovo hitman.
West Brom fans, should Bilic sacrifice Zohore if it means that Muriqi would be signed? Have your say by commenting below!
