Having secured the services of Filip Krovinovic last week, West Bromwich manager Slaven Bilic may be about to swoop for another midfielder.
According to the Telegraph, the Baggies are reportedly interested in signing Krystian Bielik on a permanent deal from Arsenal with Derby County, Middlesbrough and Brentford also monitoring the 21-year-old’s situation at the Emirates.
And with just two years left on his existing deal (via Transfermarkt), the north London club are said to be open to a sale if he is unwilling to sign an extension as they look to avoid another Aaron Ramsey situation.
Impressive whilst on loan at Charlton Athletic last season, Bielik made 34 appearances in all competitions for Lee Bowyer’s side (via Transfermarkt), helping them achieve promotion to the Championship in May via the play-offs.
When you consider that Baggies midfielders Jake Livermore and Chris Brunt played a combined total of 73 games in the Championship during the previous campaign (via WhoScored), Bielik may struggle to make any headway in this particular position.
Nevertheless, signing him could still turn out to be smart business by Bilic as he is also capable of playing at centre-back (via Transfermarkt) which is an area which West Brom need to improve upon this summer following Craig Dawson’s decision to join Watford.
With only two senior players on their books (Ahmed Hegazi and Kyle Bartley) who can operate in this role (as per Transfermarkt) for the upcoming campaign, Bielik could very well end up thriving in this position if given the chance to.
For Poland at this summer’s UEFA European Under-21 Championship, he made 2 interceptions per game and averaged an impressive WhoScored rating of 7.6 playing there, displaying what exactly he can bring to the back.
However, any potential deal may come down to whether the Baggies are willing to stump up the money needed to pay his wages.
According to Spotrac, Bielik is reportedly earning a £25,000-per-week salary at Arsenal which is a fee that West Brom may not be able to justify for a player who has only featured on 10 occasions at Championship level (via Transfermarkt).
