It would seem there is one issue that is causing a bit of concern amongst some of the West Bromwich Albion faithful on Twitter – the performances of their team defensively.
Indeed, their 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon (BBC) would not have left many feeling too confident with what they are doing at the back.
Thankfully, for the Baggies, results went their way in the Championship in regards to Leeds United as they were beaten by Sheffield Wednesday. That meant Slaven Bilic’s side would go one point clear at the top of the division.
However, it would seem changes will need to be made at the back if they are to remain at the top of the pile for the remainder of the season, as many of the club’s faithful on Twitter believe the zonal-marking system being used has caused them problems.
Fans were frustrated with their side’s inability to keep the ball out of the back of their net, whilst one stated that the WBA defence was the gift that keeps giving.
Here are just some of their reactions…
#WBA Frustrating, 3rd goal kills it, not clinical enough & wrong options taken, then we shoot ourselves in the foot again. Defence needs sorting as we all know, surely Slav & JD can get to grips with it soon???
Need a pacy alternative up top, seemed too pedestrian at times again

Awful Tom, zonal marking needs to be put in the bin, we need to go back to basics in defence, struggling against relegation fodder with most their first team injured should ring alarm bells. Wouldn’t be surprised if we dropped out the top two

This Zonal marking is killing us. System has never worked. Sadly got Slave sacked at West Ham. Need to sort defence out and very quickly.

Almost be default at the moment but really not looking capable of winning games even against poor teams. Defence shakey throughout even though Charlton had like attacking quality.

We obviously have a mjor issue in defence or CDM. The fact that Johnson has made apparently the second most saves in the league obviously proves defensively we are simply not good enough. We cant keep conceding chances to teams as eventually it catches up with ya. #wba

Only one thing could cost us promotion and that’s the defence, ajayi great start of the season but is making mistake after mistake lately #wba

A point is a point and I’m happy we’re top again, but defence really needs sorting and I’d quite like to see Bond given a chance in the league.
We have to stop conceding these sloppy goals.#WBA
