Oliver Burke is keen to get his career back on track and make a name for himself, the attacker has revealed.
A Daily Record report notes of how the 22-year-old has felt comparisons with Welsh star Gareth Bale have haunted him since making his breakthrough as a youngster.
The 22-year-old said: “What I need to do is establish myself as Oliver Burke and not as the new Gareth Bale. To do that I need to work hard in La Liga.”
Burke is currently on a season-long loan spell at Spanish top-flight side Alaves.
Burke was eventually cast aside by manager Slaven Bilic at the Hawthorns amid various loan signings in attack being brought in. Chris Willock, Grady Diangana and Matheus Pereira were all signed on loan following the departures of Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez.
He has been a car crash of a signing for West Bromwich Albion since his move from Red Bull Leipzig in the summer of 2017 for £15m. The winger has made just 24 appearances for the club, scoring a single goal and assisting a further three (via Transfermarkt).
On the basis of these statistics, it seems that Burke is a shadow of the player that was likened to Bale. A move away from the Midlands will suit Bilic down to the ground and his decisions have already paid dividends.
