West Bromwich Albion: Fullback goes unnoticed as Baggies beat Blackburn Rovers

West Bromwich Albion rescued a victory after conceding in the first minute against Blackburn Rovers, with one player putting in a stellar performance without getting much attention.

First-half goals from Matt Phillips, Jake Livermore and Grady Diangana saw Slaven Bilic’s side come back from 1-0 down to win the game 3-2.

There were brilliant performances all over the pitch, with the three behind Charlie Austin, Diangana, Phillips and Matheus Pereira, proving brilliant in the victory

Diangana performed the most dribbles and had the joint-most shots out of the whole West Brom squad (via WhoScored).

Pereira was great in retaining possession, playing the third-most passes and performing the joint-third most dribbles in a well-rounded attacking display at number 10.

Meanwhile, Phillips was vital going forward and tracking back for Bilic’s side on Saturday. The Scotland international made the third-most blocks and had the third-most shots as he proved a positive influence at both ends of the pitch.

However, it is Darnell Furlong who seemingly went unnoticed with his performance at right-back. The Englishman won the most aerial duels and made the third-most clearances as he put in a solid shift in defence. The 23-year-old also played 38 passes, losing the ball just once, retaining the ball well.

Express and Star also sung Furlong’s praises, giving him a seven out of 10 in their rating of the player.

They said: “Played at right-back in order to give Albion an attacking forced on that wing and boy did he deliver.”

“Got to the byline several times to cut the ball back into the danger area, and helped set up the second goal. Has a surprisingly good leap on him too.”
