What does the future hold for Achraf Lazaar?

What looked extremely unlikely at Christmas could be possible for Sheffield Wednesday this season as promotion appears to be a real possibility.

Steve Bruce has turned things around incredibly at Hillsborough since being placed in charge of the Owls and there is a real sense of hope that the club can do what they thought was unachievable.

With 11 games still to play in the Championship, they sit just six points off of a playoff spot and despite one of the toughest ends to the campaign, Sheffield Wednesday have shown they can pick up positive results against some of the division’s in-form sides at times.

As fans know, the club will need to achieve promotion to the Premier League to ensure they do not suffer from another transfer embargo with their concerns over Financial Fair Play, which has cast doubt over a number of their squad’s futures at the club.

A number of players could depart in the summer with their contracts set to expire, leaving Bruce with what will be a hard decision to make.

Rolando Aarons and Achraf Lazaar both joined the club on a temporary deal from Newcastle United on Deadline Day in the January transfer window as they look to end their nightmare time at the Premier League outfit.

However, the former’s misery is set to continue and it brings up the question of what does the future hold for him.

Lazaar has made just two appearances for Sheffield Wednesday so far before going down with what appeared to be a hamstring injury in the win against Brentford, leading to fears that he could be unavailable until April, per The Sheffield Star.

The Morocco international looked to be in impressive form for the Owls in those couple of matches and would have been using his time in Yorkshire to try and get back to regular football and possibly win himself a permanent deal with the club.

However, the 27-year-old will now likely be cutting a frustrated figure on the sidelines and will want to make his return to the first-team as quick as possible.

If he does, then Sheffield Wednesday could have an excellent chance of reaching a playoff spot by the conclusion of the Championship season.

Sheffield Wednesday fans, what do you make of Lazaar’s limited impact so far and has he done enough for you to stay at the club beyond his loan spell? Join in the discussion by letting us know below.
