He’s had a remarkable campaign, on the whole, hasn’t he? Che Adams has improved year upon year at Birmingham City with this campaign being his best to date. The form he has displayed for large chunks of the campaign will undoubtedly attract some high-profile potential suitors.
Adams has been more and more influential as his time at the Blues has gone on. Upon arriving at St. Andrew’s in 2016, he went on to net seven times and provided six assists across 42 games that season. The following year, he managed to better that goalscoring tally with nine in goals across 33 games in all competitions.
This year, though, he has truly stepped up his game. Garry Monk’s front two partnership of Adams and Lukas Jutkiewicz has worked a treat, with the pair interlinking well as both have had seasons to shout about.
Both players finished the season having featured in all of Birmingham’s Championship games with Adams able to boast 22 goals and five assists as well as a place in the EFL’s Championship Team of the Season, with Jutkiewicz helping out with 14 goals and 10 assists himself.
Although Adams’ goalscoring form tailed off in the latter stage of the season, having netted once since late February, it is easy to forget he is just 22 and consistency across the entire season comes with greater experience. At such an age and having scored so much though, that does pose the question as to what is next for Adams?
Well, given how well the striking pairing have worked under Monk it would be interesting to see how they did next year if he was to stay another year and if the Blues could target a play-off spot.
Though, if not this summer then certainly next, it would come as no surprise for a handful of Premier League clubs to come in for Adams’ services. The money his sale would bring in could alleviate some of the financial pressure on the club and strengthen areas they lack quality, as well as bringing in a new forward who can perform in the Championship and develop well at Birmingham.
Linked by the Mirror with big moves earlier this season, perhaps it’s a bullet the Blues will have to bite.
