Nottingham Forest fans are still yet to see Martin O’Neill get the best out of their side as they’ve struggled to ensure consistency since he took charge. Indeed, a play-off place is still a possibility at this stage but it won’t be easy with the teams above regularly picking up points.
Forest have a number of winnable games on the horizon as they’re set to take on the likes of Rotherham United, Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers, so their play-off fate could be decided sooner rather than later.
But, one thing that isn’t certain at the City Ground is the future of one of O’Neill’s current players, as according to the Nottingham Post (via Derbyshire Telegraph), Diogo Goncalves is unlikely to remain at the club past his loan spell.
The Portuguese attacker, who is valued at £2.25 million (by Transfermarkt), has been absolutely useless in the current campaign after joining from Benfica back in the summer transfer window as he’s yet to score and hasn’t produced an assist. He spends most of his time on the substitutes’ bench and has only made seven appearances in the Championship, so he certainly wouldn’t be missed.
It’s clear to see that the ambitious move to bring in a Portuguese talent hasn’t worked and the Midlands club will learn from that, with there possibly being a number of other players leaving in the summer.
Nottingham Forest fans will surely be delighted to hear that Goncalves is unlikely to return to the City Ground once his loan deal expires as he’s of no use to O’Neill. The Championship club need to go out and bring in another winger who can follow in Joe Lolley’s footsteps after witnessing his rise to stardom.
Nottingham Forest fans, surely you can’t wait to see the back of Goncalves? Join the discussion by commenting down below!
