He’s been almost faultless so far, almost, hasn’t he? Dominic Iorfa has excelled since moving to Sheffield Wednesday in January and as he continues to improve, the club will surely be growing in hope that he will remain at Hillsborough for the long-term future.
It made sense for Iorfa to finally move on from Wolverhampton Wanderers, having been there eight years. The former England under-21 international looked set to have a bright future at the Molineux when he broke through into the first-team in late 2014 and sustained a regular starting role for the following year, however, he was never able to truly kick on.
Last campaign, he spent the season at Ipswich Town on loan and having not played for Wolves for the first part of this season, a move to the Owls in January for £200,000, as per The Star, seemed the right decision. It has paid off, too.
Iorfa, who is able to feature at either right-back or centre-back, has seemingly nailed down the former position in the last couple of months and, obviously, bar his sending off at the weekend, Steve Bruce has been able to rely on him throughout Wednesday’s resurgence.
Given that the 23-year-old has generally performed so well, particularly in the recent win against Bristol City, that poses the question as to what the future holds for him?
Well, considering what Wednesday are building and how Bruce has bettered the side in just months of being at the club, promotion should be a realistic target next season as a play-off place is more than attainable given the unpredictability of the division. With that said, Iorfa should play a key role in this club who are on the way up and at the moment, there is no better place for him to be.
If Wednesday do struggle for promotion in the coming years and Iorfa was to continue bettering himself, it would come as no surprise either to see a side either on the cusp of promotion or potentially even a side in the Premier League after his services.
Either way, Iorfa should be a pivotal figure wherever he is playing his football in the not too distant future.
