The 2018/19 Championship campaign has been a poor one for Queens Park Rangers.
The second half of it, in particular, has pretty much been a disaster for the west London club and has cost Steve McClaren his job.
With all of that being said, one man at Loftus Road who can probably hold his head high is goalkeeper Joe Lumley.
The 24-year-old has been one of QPR’s better players this term, keeping 14 clean sheets in the Championship, and is now starting to attract interest from other clubs in the division.
And Bristol City are said to be one of them, with Bristol Live reporting Lumley is their No.1 summer target for that position between the sticks.
Given Lumley’s form this term and decent loan spells at Blackpool and Bristol Rovers, it is not hard to see why the Championship outfit are interested in the Englishman.
“Joe was exceptional,” former Rovers goalkeeper coach Steve Mildenhall told Bristol Live when speaking about Lumley’s time at the Memorial Stadium.
“We’ve had a few goalies over the last few years who haven’t quite gelled at the club. But he was outstanding from day one – his work ethic and his attitude was exceptional.
“Hopefully it may not be the last we ever see of Joe at Rovers. It would obviously be great to have him back playing. It proved when he came in how tight the defence became and we stopped leaking goals.”
With a new manager set to come in ahead of next season, though, QPR would be silly to sell their academy graduate.
That goalkeeper position can be such a hard one to fill. The last thing the Rs’ next boss needs is to be chasing a new No.1 all summer, a No.1 who probably will not be as reliable as Lumley.
Sell Lumley, and Tony Fernandes could handicap his next manager before he even steps foot in the Loftus Road dugout.
