He has had quite the typical career as a Chelsea loanee, hasn’t he? Michael Hector is now on the 15th loan spell of his career so far at just 26 years of age. Hector has played in varying tiers of English football during his career and now in his fourth season having the Blues as his parent club, he has been to Germany and back and he now finds himself at Sheffield Wednesday.
Hector can boast an unconventional, yet still, a productive career as he has still played key roles in different teams campaigns, particularly Championship sides.
It is easy to see as to why Wednesday brought him in. The Jamaican international is strong in the tackle and comfortable moving forward with the ball, the combination of two sets of attributes is not too common in the Championship so Hector’s playstyle makes for an accomplished combination.
Hector’s loan will expire in the summer when he will return to his parent club, so when that time arrives it poses the question as to what is next for the 26-year-old?
Well, having been one of the Owls’ top performers across the season, there is a possibility that Steve Bruce may look to make that deal permanent to enable Hector to stay in South Yorkshire for a prolonged period of time to bolster his play-off hopes in the coming years.
The Guardian reported that if Fifa’s proposal goes through regarding new rules on loans, clubs may only be able to loan out six to eight pro’s from the 2020/21 season. Therefore, Chelsea may have no choice but to move many of their loanees on and they could prepare for doing so by allowing some of them to leave this summer, with Hector potentially being one of them.
Hector is now approaching his prime so it is only fair that to benefit his career, Chelsea enables him to move on and do so permanently, whether that be to Wednesday or another outfit, so he can grow with a club and help to better them as a whole.
