Lee Bowyer has given his take on the Championship restart and the three players who have refused to return.
It was announced on Sunday that all second tier clubs will be returning to action as of June 20, aligning with the Premier League (via BBC Sport). The resumption will be the first lot of matches to be played in more than two months, after all football was frozen in March.
Charlton have also been dealt a blow as they prepare to make their return. Lyle Taylor, Chris Solly and David Davis have all announced they will not be featuring alongside the team for the nine remaining Championship games.
Will Charlton stay up this season?
“I had a chat with the squad this morning and told them the situation,” Bowyer said in a club statement. “It’s very simple, no-one is going to come in and help us now, this is us that are here now and we have to fight. We have to fight to the end and we’ve got nine games to do it.
“We’ve all got to stick together, I made it clear that everyone is starting from a clean slate on the playing side of things. If people have done well in the past and they aren’t ready for the first game, then they won’t play.”
Addicks fans have responded to the manager’s comments on Twitter and are in full support of his outlook. One supporter has tweeted ‘This is why I love Bowyer’, whilst others are geared up and ready for the season to restart.
Roll the sleeves up and let’s do it 👊🏽

Love that bloke charlton runs through his vanes, shame a couple of players dont have the same and just out for themselves and say they love football but will not finish a season like everyone else.
