Lee Bowyer has given his take on what he feels Charlton Athletic will need from any potential new owner.
Charlton have endured a turbulent 2020 – feeling the dizzy heights of the January takeover which rapidly turned sour. The club recently announced that ownership would be changing hands at the hilt and Marian Mihail has addressed talk of a new takeover head-on.
The director wrote that no information has been shared regarding the potential sale but added that Matt Southall is “obliged to sell his shareholding in ESI” (via Charlton).

Bowyer has also weighed in on the current takeover talk. He told London New Online: “We need stability. If we are selling, we need to sell to someone who will take care of this great club – who will bring some stability. At the moment, we do not have that.”
East Street Investments (ESI) took hold of the reins in January after buying Charlton from Roland Duchatelet. After just six months with the club, ownership looks set to change hands once again. Former Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has shown interest in the role and has admitted that he wants the chance to “prosper” again (via Wales Online).
“It has been going on too long now. I have not spoken to Tahnoon Nimer for a month – but in all my time here I only spoke to Roland Duchatelet three or four times,” Bowyer continued. “We have not been told about the Jenkins deal. All I am doing is concentrating on getting the players ready when called upon.”
Championship clubs have returned to training and could follow the Premier League’s lead in reintroducing contact drills to their sessions. Those teams in the EFL’s highest division are working towards a resumption date of June 20 after being out of action for more than three months – but for the Addicks, that return looks set to come under a murky cloud of unrest given the uncertainty regarding the club’s ownership.
