The forward has been on Jose Mourinho’s radar but the 22-year-old gave his boss, Roberto Mancini, a huge boost as he agreed to sign a new deal before their 1-0 defeat to Fiorentina.

This will see his annual earnings move to £2.2 million on a contract that will last until 2019.

Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool [also voiced an interest](https://talksport.com/football/premier-league-quartet-be-handed-transfer-blow-150304138559) in the striker as he has bagged 14 goals in 24 Serie A appearances.

A number of Chelsea fans over by the dartboard in the Football Transfer Tavern are disappointed to hear the news, and see the 22-year-old as a perfect long-term addition to the Blues squad.
