# Chelsea: Gallagher tipped for summer exit by Simon Phillips

**Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that [Conor Gallagher](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/conor-gallagher/) could be ‘willing’ to leave [Chelsea](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/chelsea-fc-transfer-rumours/) in the summer transfer window.**

### The Lowdown: Staying put

Towards the back end of the month, the midfielder was wanted by fellow [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) clubs, according to [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/everton-lodge-bid-chelsea-midfielder-conor-gallagher).

The 22-year-old [has](https://www.sofascore.com/player/conor-gallagher/904970) played on 19 occasions for [Graham Potter’s](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/graham-potter/) side, with only 10 of those games being from the start.

As far as minutes are concerned, Gallagher has [struggled](https://www.sofascore.com/player/conor-gallagher/904970) for them. On average, he’s played 44 minutes in the league in the 2022/23 campaign. And after the raft of players brought in by Chelsea last month, it would be difficult to blame the midfielder for having his head turned.

### The Latest: Possible summer exit

Speaking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88111947-chelsea-transfer-news-50k-a-week-willing-leave-stamford-bridge), Phillips claims that Gallagher wants to play games and feels he won’t get that at Chelsea.

He stated: “He knows he wants to play games and he’s not going to get that at Chelsea with all these players there.

“He would be willing to leave in the summer if it carries on that he’s not a regular starter for Chelsea because he doesn’t want to be a bench player.”

### The Verdict: Unlikely to feature

We believe that it is unlikely for Gallagher to break his way into Chelsea’s starting XI on a regular basis.

The Blues are [jam-packed](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-chelsea/startseite/verein/631) with options in the midfield positions, and in our view, it’ll be difficult for him to nail down a starting place as they’ve [added](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chelsea-fc/transfers/verein/631/plus/?saison_id=2022&pos=&detailpos=&w_s=w) two new additions to their team last month.

Gallagher could definitely offer a lot to another Premier League – his loan spell with Crystal Palace proved he can be an [attacking threa](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/conor-gallagher/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/488362) in our opinion.

Whilst on loan with the Eagles, Alan Shearer said the player showed the capabilities to be an ‘[all-round midfielder](https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/goal-of-the-month-contender-motd-pundit-has-praise-for-crystal-palaces-conor-gallagher/)‘ in a 2-2 draw against West Ham United when speaking on Match of the Day.

With 83 Premier League [appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/conor-gallagher/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/488362/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=GB1&pos=&trainer_id=) in three seasons, we wouldn’t be surprised if a club looked to sign Gallagher in the summer.

He knows the league well and showed [bags of talent](https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/announcement/conor-gallagher-wins-crystal-palace-player-of-the-season-2021-22/) at Palace. Our view is a number of managers would back themselves to get the player delivering once again.
