# Chelsea desperate to complete record-breaking deal

[![Griezmann](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Griezmann-500x349.jpg)](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Griezmann.jpg?admin)Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited by rumours that suggest they are looking to set a new transfer record and secure a major arrival.

[*The Daily Mail* state Blues owner Roman Abramovich remains extremely keen on Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3293489/Chelsea-want-Atletico-Madrid-star-Antoine-Griezmann-reinvigorate-attack-Diego-Costa-returns-Spain-Eden-Hazard-not-priority-Real-Madrid-Barcelona.html) and will pay whatever it takes to secure the French international.

Russian boss Abramovich is firmly of the belief that a marquee signing is needed to provide a boost to his underperforming side, which sit 15th in the Premier League, and is happy to [pay Griezmann’s £47m release clause.](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3293489/Chelsea-want-Atletico-Madrid-star-Antoine-Griezmann-reinvigorate-attack-Diego-Costa-returns-Spain-Eden-Hazard-not-priority-Real-Madrid-Barcelona.html)

That figure in itself wouldn’t break a transfer record, with Chelsea’s most expensive addition being the £50m purchase of Fernando Torres, but [Arsenal’s interest in the French forward could drive the price-up.](https://metro.co.uk/2015/10/17/arsenal-want-to-seal-antoine-griezmann-transfer-before-euro-2016-report-5446192/)

Chelsea could possess a major playing card in the form of Diego Costa, who is happy to return to Spain as he misses his friends and former team-mates in Atletico- whilst it’s claimed [he came close to requesting a return this summer.](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3293489/Chelsea-want-Atletico-Madrid-star-Antoine-Griezmann-reinvigorate-attack-Diego-Costa-returns-Spain-Eden-Hazard-not-priority-Real-Madrid-Barcelona.html)
