# Chelsea: Fans bemoan reports over potential move for Sergio Aguero

**Chelsea fans were bemoaning their club’s inability to complete a deal for Sergio Aguero before the attacker moved to Manchester City.**

[According to The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/1383439/2019/11/18/why-chelsea-missed-out-on-signing-aguero-despite-making-him-a-target-in-2009/), the Blues were working on a move for then-Atletico Madrid forward with John Terry passing on his doubts over the move to the hierarchy.

Aguero ended up at the blue half of Manchester on a five-year contract for a fee believed to be £38m [(via BBC)](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/14226198).

The failure to sign Aguero seems to be a move that has come to bite the west London giants with attacker having won eight major trophies in eight years with the Citizens [(via Transfermarkt)](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergio-aguero/leistungsdaten/spieler/26399).

The Blues seemed to opt for a cheaper option instead as they signed Anderlecht forward Romelu Lukaku for a fee believed to be [£13.5m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-chelsea/alletransfers/verein/631).

Fans were bemoaning the fact the club passed on the opportunity to sign Aguero as they took to Twitter to react.

Here is a selection of tweets from the Stamford Bridge faithful:

> Toxic player power! That’s why managers need to be in full control. We could have had the best striker in the league.
