# Chelsea: Fans fume at Frank Lampard for selecting Mason Mount ahead of Mateo Kovacic

**Chelsea manager Frank Lampard came in for stinging criticism from a large number of the club’s fans over one particular aspect of his team selection.**

Mason Mount [started for the fourth Premier League game in a row](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mason-mount/leistungsdaten/spieler/346483) but the midfielder endured a difficult afternoon at Stamford Bridge as the Blues fell to a 0-1 defeat at home to Bournemouth.

The 19-year-old, who was [preferred to Mateo Kovacic in a central attacking midfield role](https://www.skysports.com/football/chelsea-vs-bmouth/teams/408143), failed to make the most of a first half chance when his shot was [repelled by Cherries goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/50696487) and that proved to be his [only shot](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1376294/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2019-2020-Chelsea-Bournemouth) all afternoon.

Oliver Harbord of [Football London](https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/fixtures-results/chelsea-player-ratings-christian-pulisic-17421312) gave Mount a lowly rating of three and said that he “couldn’t add anything in the final third of quality”, while Ben Pringle of the [Daily Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1217309/Chelsea-player-ratings-Bournemouth-forwards-fail-Premier-League) felt that the teenager “was guilty of playing some poor passes”, although he did find a team-mate with [29](https://www.sofascore.com/bournemouth-chelsea/Nskb) of his [34 passes](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1376294/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2019-2020-Chelsea-Bournemouth) on the day.
