# Chelsea: Fans laugh at Leeds’ interest in Reece James

**Leeds United reportedly want to take Chelsea full-back Reece James on loan in January, according to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/leeds-united-plot-swoop-for-pl-sensation/).\**

The 19-year-old spent last season on loan with [Wigan Athletic](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/reece-james/profil/spieler/472423) in the Championship, but he has been called up to play a part in Frank Lampard’s senior squad this time out.

Having injured his ankle whilst playing for England Under-20s in the summer, James has only just returned to fitness and played a pivotal role in the Blues’ 7-1 thrashing of Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup last month – [scoring and assisting](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/reece-james/leistungsdaten/spieler/472423) against the Mariners at Stamford Bridge.

James is yet to play for Chelsea in the Premier League, however, with Leeds now reportedly keen on giving him the valuable first-team experience he needs as they look to finally obtain promotion to the top-flight this season.

After Frank Lampard’s very public dispute with the Whites last term – when Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa was found guilty of [‘spying’](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/blog/marcottis-musings/62/post/3753303/marcelo-bielsa-upstaged-frank-lampard-in-spy-gate-and-added-to-his-sizable-coaching-legend) on his Derby side before the two sides met in the Championship – it would surely be a surprise to see the ex-England international do business with the Yorkshire side.
