# Chelsea: Fans praise Kurt Zouma’s performance in defeat to Bournemouth

**A lot of Chelsea fans commended the performance of defender Kurt Zouma despite seeing their team falling to a [fourth defeat from their last five Premier League matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-chelsea/spielplan/verein/631) today.**

The Blues were defeated 0-1 at home by Bournemouth, meaning they have now [lost six Premier League games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-chelsea/spielplan/verein/631) before the halfway point of the season.

On another bad day at the office for Frank Lampard’s team overall, the display of their French centre-back was one of the few positives.

The 25-year-old won eight aerial duels against the Cherries, the most of any Chelsea player this afternoon, and also recorded three successful tackles and made seven clearances. \[[via WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1376294/LiveStatistics/England-Premier-League-2019-2020-Chelsea-Bournemouth)\]

A last-ditch tackle from Zouma [denied Joshua King what seemed certain to be a goal](https://www.skysports.com/football/chelsea-vs-bmouth/408143) in the first half and the defender was praised by some reporters afterwards, with Ben Pringle of the [Daily Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1217309/Chelsea-player-ratings-Bournemouth-forwards-fail-Premier-League) referencing “a number of excellent headed clearances” from the Frenchman.

Owen Phillips of [West London Sport](https://www.westlondonsport.com/chelsea/football-afc-bournemouth-chelsea-ratings-151219) noted how he “made several vital recovery challenges and generally defended well on a very frustrating day for the Blues”.

These Chelsea fans on Twitter also hailed Zouma’s performance in today’s defeat, with one fan believing he has outperformed fellow Blues centre-half Fikayo Tomori:

> Zouma has been better than Tomori this season.

> Sigh.. It was probably the most predictable game from Chelsea this season. Bournemouth played well but Chelsea looked like they ran out of ideas. Corners were also bad I can’t even mention how many times they hit the first man. I’m just happy Zouma was excellent defensively today
