# Chelsea: Fans react negatively after Ross Barkley returns to training

**Chelsea fans have been reacting negatively after Ross Barkley returned to full training for Frank Lampard’s side ahead of their Champions League game away to Valencia.**

Barkley was back in training after recovering from the ankle injury he picked up in the 1-0 win over Newcastle United back in October [(via football.london)](https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/players/loftus-cheek-barkley-hudson-odoi-17318014).

The England international has proved an infamous figure among the Stamford Bridge faithful after he took a penalty off Jorginho and Willian only to miss it in the 1-0 loss to the Spanish side back in September [(via The Daily Star)](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/chelsea-fans-demand-ross-barkley-20085858).

Following the incident, Frank Lampard came out in staunch defence of his midfielder as he claimed Barkley was the designated penalty taker at the club [(via The Telegraph)](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/09/17/ross-barkley-right-take-penalty-says-chelsea-manager-frank-lampard/).

However, it seems the fans are yet to forgive the former Everton man as they took to Twitter to react negatively to his return to training.

Here is a selection of tweets from the west London faithful:
