Chelsea: Armando Broja targeting comeback for start of next season

Chelsea: Armando Broja targeting comeback for start of next season - Chelsea News

Chelsea striker Armando Broja being ruled out for the season is ‘bad news’ but the player is hoping to be fit for the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Gutting injury update

The Premier League giants held a mid-season friendly against Aston Villa last weekend, and suffering a 1-0 defeat to their rivals wasn’t the only negative to occur on the day.

The Albanian was on the receiving end of a collision with Ezri Konsa, and the club later confirmed that surgery was required following an anterior cruciate ligament rupture, an update that supporters won’t want to have heard.

The Latest: Romano’s reaction

Taking to Twitter, Romano reacted to Broja’s gutting news coming out of Chelsea and wished him well on his road to recovery, also revealing the targeted return date of next August.

“Bad news for Chelsea. Armando Broja will be out for the rest of the season as he needs surgery after ACL injury — been told he hopes to be ready for the start [of] next season.

“It’s ruptured cruciate ligament. Get well soon.”

First up in this Chelsea World Cup quiz, the Blues have how many players in the England squad for Qatar 2022?

The Verdict: Blow for Potter

Chelsea learning that Broja won’t play any part in the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign will come as a huge blow to Graham Potter, who will have been excited to give him a chance to shine in the first team.

The Blues forward netted 16 goals and provided five assists in 35 appearances for the club’s U18s, which helped him force his way into the senior fold.

The Stamford Bridge outfit will be hoping to have Broja back at their disposal as soon as possible, though it’s vital that they don’t rush his return and risk extending his spell on the sidelines.
