New Chelsea signing Timo Werner is already impressing many of the Blues’ fan base after hitting the ground running with his scoring portfolio.
The Germany international recently scored in a pre-season friendly against Brighton, which could serve as a preview for when the two sides meet in the Premier League in nine days’ time.
Werner impressed once again on Thursday evening, but this time in the colours of his native Germany.
Could Timo Werner challenge for this season's Golden Boot?
As the Nationalmannschaft hosted Spain in a Nations League clash, the 24-year-old opened up the scoring just after half-time, only for his goal to be cancelled out by a late strike from Jose Gaya.
Despite the draw, many Chelsea fans heaped praise on their new striker for his strong performance on international duty. A select few also loved the fact that Werner has already scored past David de Gea, an opponent that he is yet to meet in the Premier League.
These supporters were poking fun at the Spaniard and indeed at Manchester United for already suffering the heat of Werner’s prolific nature in front of goal. According to Sofascore, the forward could’ve scored another two times for his side, but one shot hit the woodwork and another was regarded as a big chance missed.
Spain could’ve been in serious trouble if Werner had been able to put those extra chances away and he could well make up for it when he debuts for the Blues in the Premier League. De Gea and Manchester United, you have been warned.
