Frank Lampard has lauded Christian Pulisic for his recent positive form and has revealed what makes him different to Eden Hazard.
The former Dortmund star has been on song for Chelsea since the restart and the Blues look set to secure Champions League football next season. Since football returned, Lampard’s side have won four of their five games played and Pulisic has been involved in two goal contributions (via Sofascore).
He has recently been compared to club icon Hazard, with them both playing on the left and having pace in abundance. When asked about the comparisons, Lampard has outlined one key difference between the two playmakers.
Can Christian Pulisic beat Eden Hazard's goal tally for Chelsea?
“I think with Christian he is possibly more direct in his style in terms of how he goes past players and runs off the ball, which I like,” the 42-year-old said in a recent interview (via Metro).
“Eden would come and get the ball and take it past players a lot. I think with Christian he has the real ability to break a line and run forward which is a really great trait in the modern game.”
Since his arrival in London, Pulisic has accumulated eight goals and six assists in 28 appearances (via Transfermarkt). Considering he was out for a large chunk of the season with an abductor injury, the US international has wasted no time in finding the back of the net again.
“The thing I’m so happy with now is when we are playing teams and the games are tough and we’re finding it hard to break teams down, he’s taking responsibility to change that, to change it in moments he has by using his ability to turn quickly and go past people,” Lampard continued.
“It’s been great to see, and I keep saying, there’s a lot of development to come with Christian, I’m very happy with him.”
There’s every possibility Pulisic can become an icon like Hazard. At just 21-years-old, he already has a lot of experience and talent, which bodes well for a bright future in blue.
