Chelsea: Blues eyeing Joao Felix move for January - Chelsea News

Chelsea are eyeing a January move for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix, according to a new report.

The Lowdown: Felix’s future at Atletico

The Daily Mail claimed that it is now very likely that the 23-year-old will leave the Spanish capital next month as a result of his fraught working relationship with Diego Simeone, among other factors.

The same report highlights that Manchester United, Arsenal and Aston Villa are all options for the Portugal international, with his agent Jorge Mendes intent on finding him a suitable Premier League move.

However, Chelsea have now entered the fray as potential suitors, and they are believed to be on the verge of making an offer…

The Latest: Chelsea enter the mix for Felix

According to a report from The Telegraph, the Blues are looking at a deal on an initial loan to strengthen Graham Potter’s options in the second half of the season.

Atletico are said to be braced for an offer from the west London club, which is likely to include an obligation to purchase the forward at the end of the season.

The Verdict: Get it done

The 23-year-old may not have lived up to the huge transfer fee of £113m for which he joined the La Liga club in 2019, but he would still have a lot to offer Chelsea, and he has plenty of time to develop his game even further.

Lauded as ‘world class‘ by Atletico chief Miguel Angel Gil Marin, the forward has 53 goals and 29 assists to his name in 172 senior career appearances, just under a goal contribution every other game.

Such a goalscoring presence would be useful for Chelsea, given their status as the lowest-scoring team in the top half of the Premier League prior to this evening’s clash against Bournemouth.

The Blues have scored just 17 goals in the top flight so far this season, so it is clear that they need a fresh impetus in attack if they are to have a realistic chance of securing a place in the top four, and they now have a great opportunity to sign a real gem in Felix on what looks a low-risk deal.
