Michael Owen has listed the three teams he thinks will challenge Liverpool for the Premier League title next season.
The former Red has tipped the two Manchester sides along with Chelsea to be Jurgen Klopp’s biggest rivals in their fight to retain their crown. Liverpool have run away with the league this campaign and will finish as new record holders for the fastest time to ever wrap up the title (via ESPN), winning with seven matches to spare.
However, Owen thinks the Reds are already in danger. Speaking to Premier League Productions (via Daily Star), the ex-Anfield ace said: “I think they’re [Liverpool] a very, very strong team that’s probably going to be strong for some time. [But] That’s not to say they can’t be caught.” Owen went on to laud the quality of Manchester City, who he thinks will give his old side a run for their money next season.

He also made a case for another of his former clubs, commenting on Manchester United’s “rapid rate” of improvement.
“Chelsea are showing a lot of intent with their signings. They’ve been banned from signing players for some while but now they’re making a big splash and they’ve got some youngsters coming in,” Owen continued.
The Blues are currently fourth in the Premier League and will look to secure Champions League football if they can maintain their positive run of form. Frank Lampard has teased fans with what to expect from his side next season after bringing in Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
Chelsea are also linked to Kai Havertz and are nurturing homegrown talent such as Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham.
It will certainly be an exciting title race next season, with all eyes on the newly-crowned champions. However, having handed Liverpool the title by beating Manchester City last week, the Blues will be keen to thwart rather than aid the Reds in the hunt for the Premier League crown in 2021.
