Chelsea are believed to be the current front-runners to sign Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar this summer, according to a fresh transfer update.

The Lowdown: Chelsea linked with Neymar swoop

The Blues have been free-spending recently, bringing in the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk and Joao Felix during the January transfer window.

It look as though this summer could also be an exciting one for Chelsea supporters and Neymar has recently been linked with a stunning move to Stamford Bridge.

Now, a new claim further adds fuel to the fire surrounding the speculation.

The Latest: Key update emerges

According to Football Insider, Chelsea are now in pole position to snap up Neymar in the summer, with an exit from PSG looking increasingly likely.

Only the Blues are believed to have the 'financial clout' to get a deal over the line compared to their Premier League rivals, putting them in the lead.

The Verdict: Is he needed?

There is no denying Neymar's incredible pedigree as a footballer - he reportedly earns £40million a year at PSG - with the 31-year-old now Brazil's leading goalscorer of all time with 77 goals in 124 caps.

The forward has been one of the standout players of his generation  - he has been described as an 'artist' by PSG boss Christophe Galtier - and he possesses the skill and end product to terrify any defence.

That being said, there is an argument to say that Neymar isn't needed at Chelsea currently, with Mudryk coming in on the left-hand side and the likes of Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic also good wide options.

At 31, he is no longer at the absolute peak of his powers, and the money that the Blues would likely have to pay for him means they would be wiser to look at younger options in more pressing areas of the pitch.
