Chelsea are 'in direct contact' with PSV Eindhoven attacker Noni Madueke ahead of a potential January move, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Madueke impressing for PSV

The 20-year-old has done well for the Dutch giants, already scoring 20 goals and registering 14 assists, despite being such a young player.

Madueke has also won four caps for England's Under-21s, and is considered a footballer with a lot of promise, being hailed as 'dynamic' by Brendan Rodgers.

Chelsea are in desperate need of fresh blood in the January transfer window given their league position, and it looks as though the PSV man could be a strong target.

The Latest: Chelsea in contact over move

Taking to Twitter, Romano claimed that the Blues are working on a move for Madueke, seeing him as another option alongside Marcus Thuram:

"Chelsea are now in direct contact with PSV Eindhoven for Noni Madueke — he’s the list alongside Marcus Thuram as potential option.

"Opening verbal proposal close to €30m as @RikElfrink reported, new round of talks scheduled. PSV, open to sell at their conditions."

The Verdict: Less proven than Thuram

Being linked with a gifted young English player should always be considered exciting, so the thought of Madueke in a Chelsea shirt is a positive one.

He is already producing consistent end product in a big league, although the one possible drawback is that he does feel like a less experienced and proven option than Thuram.

The 25-year-old Frenchman has just played in a World Cup final and provided an assist in it, and if Graham Potter wants someone who can be an immediate hit, he would be the better signing than Madueke. Chelsea signing the PSV starlet would still be no bad move though, and perhaps they could even go for both.
