Chelsea have "already spoken to" the agent of Mexico international Alexis Vega with a view to a possible move to the Premier League, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The Lowdown: European move expected for Vega

Transfer expert Dean Jones recently wrote for GIVEMESPORT that the Blues would be one of the clubs keeping a close eye on the 25-year-old at the World Cup in Qatar, in which the Guadalajara forward started all three of his country's group matches.

Vega's father has urged his son to leave his homeland and pursue his dream of playing in Europe, while Guadalajara’s sporting director Fernando Hierro admitted that the player himself will have the final say over where his future lies, rather than his club.

The Latest: Chelsea speak to Vega's agent

It now appears that Chelsea have already made their move for Vega, having been in touch with the player's agent and placing him on their transfer wish list.

Phillips told GIVEMESPORT: "One player I have been told, who is also a winger and playing at the World Cup with Mexico, is Alexis Vega. We’ve had information come to us that he’s a player on Chelsea’s list of targets and we’ve actually already spoken to his agent as well, so that’s definitely one to keep an eye on."

The Verdict: Chelsea may need him

Although Vega could not prevent Mexico from failing to reach the knockout rounds of the World Cup for the first time since 1990, he is a player who Chelsea are quite right to pursue.

Hierro has dubbed the 25-year-old a "magnificent" player, praise not to be taken lightly given that the Guadalajara chief was a multiple Champions League winner with Real Madrid at the turn of the century.

Vega could also offer Graham Potter a much-needed alternative on the left-hand side of Chelsea's attack, where Raheem Sterling is currently the only natural option, and even then he has played mostly at centre-forward this term.

With the England forward seeing his form questioned at Stamford Bridge, netting just five times in 19 appearances to date, the Mexican is a player who the Blues may need to offer competition - and a possible wake-up call - to the former Manchester City man.
