Chelsea kicked their new Premier League season off with a 3-1 win over Brighton on the road.
The Blues brushed aside the Seagulls who, despite forcing an equaliser, were unable to hold onto their grip on the game.
Leandro Trossard put his side back in the action after Chelsea took the lead through a Jorginho penalty. However, the visitors quickly cancelled out their goal and then netted another for good measure to put the game to bed.
Will Kai Havertz score more than ten goals for Chelsea?
Two of Frank Lampard’s new recruits made their debuts at the Amex, with Timo Werner being brought down to win the penalty in the first half. However, Kai Havertz had a quieter game and has spoken out about what went wrong.
“It was a very tough game, very difficult because I had long holidays and I came back and trained for five or six days with the team,” the German told the Evening Standard. “More important is that we won so I am very happy to make my debut.”
Havertz earned a Sofascore rating of just 6.5 after making very little impact on the match. Despite not making any major errors, the 21-year-old lost the ball eight times and completed just four of his 12 attempted duels.
However, it’s by no means something Lampard should be worrying about. The Blues have a full season ahead to get the best out of their new signings and push to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City for the title.
“The Premier League is much tougher than the Bundesliga,” Havertz continued. “I have seen that in training and saw it in the game as well. But I am happy to play 80 minutes and hopefully next week I will continue.”
Chelsea have banked their first three points of the campaign and will now shift their attention to facing the reigning champions on Sunday.
