Chelsea are gearing up for their journey to Anfield where they will face the newly crowned Premier League champions.

The Blues will view this match as a must-win in their endeavour for Champions League football next season. As it stands, they sit third in the league table, but Manchester United are lurking just outside the top four. Only one point separates Chelsea from the Red Devils and they simply cannot afford any mistakes.

Frank Lampard has been tweaking his midfield options throughout the season so it's uncertain who could get the nod against Liverpool. However, one man who the 42-year-old should consider starting is Ross Barkley.

Not only did the Englishman help knock the Reds out of the FA Cup with his second half goal at Stamford Bridge, but he has a history of locking horns with this team in the Merseyside derby. Barkley's natural rivalry against Jurgen Klopp's side could be the boost Lampard needs in his midfield tonight.

Since the restart, the 26-year-old has contributed two goals and one assist, including his winner against Leicester to see his side into the FA Cup semi-final (via Sofascore). Barkley has a total of five goals and five assists for the season so far and could be up for adding to that tally this evening (via Transfermarkt).

The £19.35 million-valued playmaker has made eight appearances against Liverpool across his career but has only ever won two games against his Merseyside rivals.

It will be a tough ask for Chelsea to beat the champions on home soil, but Barkley could help get his side over the line.
