The media in Madrid have vocalised their concerns over ex-Chelsea man Eden Hazard’s current form and physicality.
The Belgian made a blockbuster move from Stamford Bridge to join the La Liga giants last summer. Los Blancos broke the bank to fork out a whopping £103.5million for his services (via Transfermarkt).
Do you think Chelsea are struggling without Eden Hazard?
After winning six major honours with Chelsea, including two Premier League titles, the price was more than justified for the winger. However, since his arrival in Madrid, Hazard hasn’t quite performed to the level of hype he received.
The 29-year-old closed his West London chapter with a 21-goal season – netting 16 in the Premier League alone and contributing a further 15 assists, which was the highest in the competition that term (via worldfootball.net).
Following his debut season for Real Madrid however, it’s not unfair to say he has fallen short of the mark. Hazard tallied just the one goal alongside seven assists across all competitions last campaign (as per Transfermarkt). He was also left out of the squad due to various injury problems, missing a staggering total of 26 matches overall.
Now it appears as though his physical form has come under fire. A recent column featured in Marca (via Sport Witness), claims Hazard has been out of shape for more than a year and was obviously overweight following his move from Chelsea.
Whilst potentially a harsh verdict, Marca have stressed the nature of being a Real Madrid player and how scrutiny should be expected when performing below standards. Indeed, Hazard will come under even more criticism unless he starts the new La Liga term in the typical style he showed at Chelsea.
