A debate has sparked amongst fans and professionals alike over whether Christian Pulisic can live up to Eden Hazard’s Chelsea legacy.
In fact, many not only believe the American can match the ex-Blue’s stats, but are confident he can better them. Former Chelsea man Tony Cascarino is amongst those who have tipped Pulisic for greatness at Stamford Bridge.
Can Christian Pulisic beat Eden Hazard's goal tally for Chelsea?
Speaking to talkSPORT, the 57-year-old lauded the winger’s performances this season and thinks if he stays with Chelsea for the long-term, he can overtake Hazard in terms of numbers.
“I think Pulisic is going to be one hell of a player,” Cascarino said. “He has got one advantage over Hazard, because Hazard was at Chelsea for a long time and over those years there were a few dips and sometimes he looked out of shape. Pulisic is a total pro, everything about him is professional.”
The Belgian is up there as one of Stamford Bridge’s finest, tallying a total of 110 goals and 92 assists in 352 appearances (via Transfermarkt). Hazard’s debut season for Chelsea came in 2012 after joining from Lille – the promising attacker notched nine goals in the Premier League, exactly the same amount as £54m-valued Pulisic in his debut campaign.
“Boy is he dangerous,” continued Cascarino. “If he stays in England for five, six, seven years for Chelsea, I think he’ll prove to be better than Hazard, and that’s a big call.”
If these huge statements are to come to fruition, Pulisic has certainly started off on the right foot. His contributions to his side this term have been invaluable and fans are already viewing him as one of the best players in team.
