Frank Lampard's Chelsea took a step closer to securing Champions League football after an emphatic victory over back-t0-back title winners Manchester City.

The focus may be on Liverpool winning their first league title in 30 years, but nothing should take away from a resilient performance from the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

Some early brilliance from Christian Pulisic opened up the scoring with a cool and composed penalty from Willian rounding off the match. However, Chelsea's backline should also be lauded for their strong defensive display, with Andreas Christensen in particular standing out.

City were able to grab a goal back through a Kevin De Bruyne free kick, but the Blues did well not to let Pep Guardiola's side further capitalise. Ultimately, the writing was on the wall after Fernandinho was sent off for his handball clearance in the City box.

Christensen boasted the best defensive stats out of Chelsea's entire defence, acting as a human wall in the heart of the back four. The 24-year-old maintained a 93% passing accuracy rating and won 100% of duels attempted which includes six ground duels and two aerials (via Sofascore). He also completed three clearances and four tackles, which was reportedly the highest in the whole game (via FotMob).

Additionally, the Denmark international created a goalscoring opportunity and registered a shot on target. As well as completing 2/2 dribbles – stats which showcase his solid defensive awareness and ability to get forward as well.

The win on home soil keeps the Blues competing with the rest of the top four challengers and will put them in good stead as they look towards their remaining games.

Christensen has featured just 17 times in Lampard's team this season, but his strong performance against City should make him one of the first names on the team-sheet going forward.
