Bayer Leverkusen head coach Peter Bosz has joked about Kai Havertz’s future away from the Bundesliga side.
The German outfit suffered defeat on Monday night after Inter Milan knocked them out of the Europa League. Havertz was on song for his side but it wasn’t enough to keep the Italians at bay, who secured their place in the semi-finals with a 2-1 win.
Following the match, Bosz was asked about the future of the 21-year-old midfield star and whether he would be leaving the club ahead of the new season (via The Mirror).
Should Chelsea look to sign Vinicius Junior?
“Yes, I can announce that he will play for Heracles Almelo,” the Dutchman joked, which was followed up by laughter from the reporters. Bosz managed Eredivisie side Heracles Almelo for five years across two spells before moving on to coach the likes of Ajax and Borussia Dortmund.
Havertz is all but confirmed to be a Chelsea player after agreeing personal terms with Marina Granovskaia. It is thought that the German will join the club once a transfer fee has been met and he will become one of the highest earners in the squad on £140,000 per week.
Heracles Almelo have joined in with Bosz’s joke by tweeting an image of Havertz sporting their colours, alongside the comment ‘Welkom Kai’ and ‘#AnnounceHavertz’.

Of course, it’s all in jest and the move to Stamford Bridge is unlikely to be called off. Chelsea have been given a £120million transfer budget by Roman Abramovich on top of what Frank Lampard has already splurged on Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
Whatever amount is decided on the 21-year-old, the Blues can certainly afford it and Havertz looks set to be sporting the Chelsea crest next season.
