Chelsea: Blues lead race to sign Sergio Reguilon as Ben Chilwell alternative

According to a report in Wednesday’s paper edition of AS, via Sport Witness, Chelsea are ‘in the lead’ to sign Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon – with the Galacticos looking to offload him despite an impressive campaign on loan at Sevilla.
As per this report, Zinedine Zidane’s side ‘like’ the 23-year-old but don’t see him in their plans next season – they are therefore open to any potential buyers who could take Reguilon for a reasonable fee.
Who would be a better Chelsea signing?
Ben Chilwell

Sergio Reguilon

Real apparently value their left-back at around £22.5 million, representing a noteworthy alternative to highly linked Chelsea target Ben Chilwell – who could cost almost four-times as much at £80 million (The Times).
Chelsea may have the advantage in signing Reguilon as well, with AS claiming he is keen on a potential move to the Premier League despite Napoli wanting him.
Reguilon, nowhere near Chilwell’s sky-high valuation, could be a very wise alternative to the Englishman considering his performances over 2019/2020 for Sevilla.
Starting 29 matches, Reguilon is an adept attacking full-back who loves to overlap and thread key passes through to teammates (WhoScored) – averaging 1.3 per 90 in the league.
1.6 completes dribbles in that time is also an arguably impressive number for a defender, coupled with the fact he has managed more crosses into the area than ex-Chelsea hero Eden Hazard.
His most recent heroics in the Europa League, an assist against Man United to help Sevilla through to the final, highlight the fact he could be a big-game player and bargain addition for the Blues.
Whether or not Marina Granovskaia makes the left-back a priority is yet to be seen, but he might be a sound Chilwell alternative.
