It seems like Chelsea are going to have to adapt their starting XI to fit in Kai Havertz if he signs, and winger Christian Pulisic looks like he has a battle on his hands to be one of the first names on the team sheet.
According to the Daily Express, the USA international could see his starting place come under threat as Frank Lampard continues to overhaul the Blues attack. Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly looking for around £89m for Havertz, per The Guardian.
With Hakem Ziyech already signed and Timo Werner reportedly on the way, Lampard has a selection dilemma that would the envy of most managers, and Pulisic has been an inconsistent starter this season for various reasons which include injury struggles, per Transfermarkt.
The 21-year-old has featured for the Blues 15 times this season in the Premier League, with five goals and two assists to his name whilst managing 2.5 shots per game, 1.2 key dribbles and 2.4 completed passes, per WhoScored.
Havertz, meanwhile, has scored 11 goals and registered five assists in 26 Bundesliga appearances this term, per WhoScored. His attacking intent is further highlighted by his averages of 1.9 shots, 2.1 key passes and two successful dribbles per game.
Here you can see that creatively Havertz is the better player, whilst Pulisic is much better at taking on opposition, and this makes sense because the players play in two different positions.
The Blues star is a winger whilst the 20-year-old plays centrally as an attacking midfielder or centre-forward. Therefore, if Lampard should be looking to drop anyone to make way for the German, it should be attacking midfielders like Mason Mount, who has fewer goals, assists and key passes a game than Havertz, per WhoScored, whilst the Englishman has made three more appearances.
Blues fans, should Mount rather than Pulisic be dropped for Havertz if he arrives? Comment below with your views!
