Chelsea could finally get their hands on a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga as talks with Edouard Mendy continue to progress.

The Blues are closing in on a deal for thegoalkeeper after L'Equipe have claimed that €25m (£22.4m) may have swayed Rennes into cashing in (via Sport Witness).

After a disappointing 2019/20 season, Kepa has lost the faith of Frank Lampard. After the Blues conceded the most goals of any team in the Premier League top 10, the Spaniard was dropped for Chelsea's final match of the season (via Transfermarkt).

Lampard highlighted the team's need for a new goalkeeper at the start of the transfer window, but so far all of his potential targets have slipped through the net. They tried to facilitate a move for Jan Oblak but his £110m release clause became a roadblock for the Blues.

This Mendy update has given Chelsea a boost in their pursuit of his services. The 28-year-old is reportedly eager to see the move go through as he doesn't want to miss the boat on his chance to play in the Premier League.

Rennes must find a replacement, though, before they allow Mendy to leave, despite him being left out of the first team squad completely in their most recent Ligue 1 fixture against Montpellier.

Signing the Senegal international will be the cherry on top of Lampard's summer spending and it could put his side in tremendous stead to challenge for the Premier League title. They have already bolstered their squad with recent recruits Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva, and adding a new goalkeeper should further strengthen them overall.
