Chelsea have a long line of suitors queuing up to try and poach youngster Conor Gallagher from the Chelsea ranks.
Amongst those eager to make a move for the 20-year-old are Newcastle, who are admirers of his ability in the middle of the park, according to The Northern Echo.
The same report claims that Mike Ashley is willing to offer up a summer budget of £35m in order to help bolster Newcastle’s squad this summer. Both Gallagher and Liverpool’s Harry Wilson have been earmarked as two of Steve Bruce’s main targets.
Does Conor Gallagher have a future with Chelsea?
However, according to Football.London, the Toon are facing heavy competition when it comes to their pursuit of the Chelsea man. As many as 12 clubs are monitoring his situation, with known interest coming from Southampton and Crystal Palace, along with newly-promoted Fulham and Leeds.
Whilst spoilt for choice, Frank Lampard has made it clear that Gallagher is not on the market for a permanent sale. Following on from two successful loan stints this season, it’s likely that the Epsom-born midfielder will be shipped out on loan again to gain valuable first team experience.
Gallagher spent six months with Charlton Athletic at the start of the 2019/20 season before rounding off with fellow Premier League loanee Rhian Brewster at Swansea in the Championship.
The 20-year-old spoke recently about his excitement over Lampard being announced as the new Chelsea manager (via BBC Sport).
“Mason [Mount], Tammy [Abraham] and Fikayo [Tomori] have been Chelsea’s best players at the start of the season,” said Gallagher, who grew up idolising the Stamford Bridge icon. “It shows that if you give more youngsters a chance they can perform.
“I hope one day I can work under Frank, because I think he has a lot to teach me.”
The playmaker tallied an impressive six goals and 11 assists in the Championship this season, showcasing why teams in transition like Newcastle are itching to land a deal for his services.
