Chelsea are one of the latest clubs to register their interest in Sporting CP starlet Joelson Fernandes.

According to A Bola (via Sport Witness), the Blues and fellow Premier League outfit Manchester City have entered the race for the 17-year-old talent. They join Arsenal in the running for the highly-rated winger, with the Gunners already being knocked back after submitting a €32million (£28.7m) bid.

The teenager made four senior appearances last season alongside playing 28 matches in Portugal's youth league Liga Revelacao, where he scored five goals and assisted a further two (via Transfermarkt).

Frank Lampard is certainly one to relish the challenge of developing promising young talent. The likes of Reece James and Mason Mount have paid off his time and patience in dividends after both becoming first team regulars last season.

If Chelsea want to make a move for Joelson, they will need to activate his €45m (£40.4m) release clause. According to the report, both the Blues and City haven't flinched at this amount, with them both seemingly prepared to pay the fee for the teen.

Lampard's current summer budget is a reported £120m, on top of what has already been spent on Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. He is making it his mission to ensure Chelsea are kitted out with enough talent and squad depth to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Joelson has been tipped for a Premier League transfer, with clubs like Juventus and Barcelona going quiet on their earlier interest in his services.
