Chelsea are said to be on the list of admirers of Italy international Ciro Immobile who looks set to leave Lazio this summer.
A lot of interest has been shown in the 30-year-old, with Frank Lampard reportedly an admirer of the 2019/20 season he has had. That’s according to Calciomercato (via Sport Witness), who claim the Blues are viewing Immobile as an ‘idea’ target at the club.
However, that’s not the only shock in the report. The Italian outlet has also tipped Tammy Abraham to be destined to leave Stamford Bridge.
Would Ciro Immobile be a good signing for Chelsea?
Lazio’s star man has been in fine form this campaign, racking up an astonishing 30 goals in 33 games played (via Transfermarkt). Numbers like this are almost impossible to ignore, and it’s no wonder Immobile has caught Lampard’s eye.
A clinical striker like the Italian would be a great addition to any side, particularly one who is looking to challenge for their respective league title. Chelsea have resurrected their form this season and have re-established themselves as a top four side. The Blues will secure Champions League football next season if they can continue their fiery performances in front of goal.
Interestingly, the report suggests that Chelsea could look to sign the striker even if they also complete a deal to bring in fellow frontman Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.
Immobile is contracted with the Serie A outfit until 2023, but with the current financial difficulties, the Lazio could choose to cash in if the right offer comes along.
The biggest bombshell is the alleged link between Chelsea’s top scorer this season and a move away from Stamford Bridge. Abraham has been a stalwart for the Blues in attack and Lampard has rewarded him by making him an almost ever-present figure in the squad this term, playing 34 times across all competitions and scoring 15 goals (Transfermarkt).
It’s an extremely surprising thought that the 22-year-old would want to leave a club where he is viewed as an integral part of the team. But if the talks prove to be true, a clinical scorer like Immobile would be a decent place to start looking for a replacement.
Not only would they be bringing in an abundance of talent and experience but Abraham would command a huge transfer fee after his rise into the limelight this campaign. But the huge question is, will the Englishman leave in search for pastures new and force Chelsea into a scramble to recruit?
