Chelsea are head and shoulders above their Premier League rivals this transfer window as they boast an impressive five new arrivals already.
This is yet to include major target Kai Havertz, who is on the brink of joining the West London club. Sky Sports recently reported that a new club record fee of £89million has been agreed by both Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen for the midfielder.
Could Chelsea win the Premier League this season?
Havertz will join the likes of Timo Werner, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell as part of Frank Lampard’s enviable summer haul.
Gary Neville has also applauded the Blues’ business leading into the 2020/21 season. The ex-Manchester United man told Stadium Astro (via Metro): “If Chelsea finish third but were in a title race with three weeks to go, that would be a huge advance on last season.
“Roman Abramovich has invested heavily, I think he knows quality can be brought in with the transfer market affected by coronavirus.”
Indeed, the arrival of Havertz will take Chelsea’s spending to more than £200million and Lampard is also reportedly still planning on signing a new goalkeeper as plus. Declan Rice is another name still in the mix for the Blues.
“But I also think he’s invigorated by Frank Lampard’s style of play,” Neville continued. “He’s always wanted Chelsea to be more fluid. You look at Lampard’s team and they’re better to watch. I think Roman Abramovich is heartened by the academy players coming through and is excited by the team.”
After a sluggish start to last season, Chelsea clawed their way up the table and finished in a very respectable fourth place. They will certainly want to build on this position and potentially challenge for the Premier League title, as well as doing their best in the Champions League.
Lampard will be hoping his flurry of new signings will help his side bridge the gap between Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the league table.
