Chelsea have made their first move to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy this summer, as Enzo Maresca looks to strengthen his attacking options for the 2024/25 campaign, according to reports.

Guirassy, described as a “beast” by his club, has quietly become one of Europe’s most prolific forwards over the past two seasons.

In 2023/24, he scored 30 goals in just 30 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt, which earned him a summer switch to Borussia Dortmund. Since arriving at the Westfalenstadion, the Guinean international has remained lethal, netting 28 goals in 41 matches across all competitions.

Thirteen of those strikes have come in the UEFA Champions League — including a stunning hat-trick against Barcelona — making him the tournament’s current top scorer.

With Chelsea’s current first-choice striker Nicolas Jackson faltering — the Senegalese forward hasn’t scored since mid-December — Spanish outlet Fichajes now reports that the Blues have “initiated moves” for Guirassy ahead of the summer window.

The 28-year-old is expected to either compete with, or outright replace, Jackson at Stamford Bridge, with Maresca eager to bring in a proven finisher to solve Chelsea’s long-standing issues up front.

Despite only arriving at Borussia Dortmund last summer, Serhou Guirassy’s future at the club is already hanging in the balance.

While the striker himself has been in scintillating form, Dortmund have endured a largely underwhelming campaign.

A dismal run over the Christmas period, during which the club won just once in the Bundesliga across December and January, led to the dismissal of Nuri Şahin. He was later replaced by Niko Kovač, but even with signs of a recent upturn, it may be too late to save their season.

With just four games remaining, the Yellow Submarine sit seventh in the Bundesliga — putting their Champions League qualification hopes in serious jeopardy.

Should they miss out on Europe’s top competition, Guirassy is expected to be among the first names linked with a move away. His current deal reportedly includes a release clause worth between £51 million and £64 million, according to Sport Bild.

Only a select group of clubs can activate the clause — a list that includes Chelsea, along with Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Arsenal.

If the Blues — or any of the other elite clubs — manage to land Guirassy, they’ll be securing one of Europe’s most lethal forwards. Based on his form in this season’s Champions League, he’s a player capable of troubling even the tightest and most experienced defences.
