Chelsea are looking to bring in a few players as their transfer ban is now over and, with the latest news suggesting they are interested in 18 year-old Kaio Jorge, it shows that they are planning for the future as well as the present.
The young winger, who has been compared with Cristiano Ronaldo, currently plays for Santos in his home nation of Brazil and has a £69m release clause in his contract but Brazilian publication Globoesporte claim that the club will allow him to be sold for less as they will reportedly do business for £26.6m.
The Daily Express believe that he could be sold by his current club as their owners are suffering financially due to recent events, and Chelsea might look to sign him in the summer.
Even though he has only made six appearances for Santos, per Transfermarkt, he has scored once in the Copa Libertadores whilst he has also managed to score six times in 10 games for Brazil’s under-17 side, which shows that he has vast potential.
His price is still quite a lot for someone who will be unproven in the Premier League but he comes from the club which also launched the career of Neymar and, if Chelsea were to make the signing, now would be the best time seeing as they can get him for less than half the price of his release clause.
On the wings at Chelsea, both Pedro and Willian are in their 30’s, so Jorge could add some much-needed younger depth in the position as the two veterans will probably be leaving the club in the next season or two.
It might be a risk but, given his comparisons and his goal return at underage level for Brazil, it is one worth taking to help Chelsea have a strong 25-man squad like rivals Manchester City so that they can compete and again become a dominant team in England’s top flight.
