Chelsea: Blues informed Edouard Mendy will cost at least £30m - Chelsea

Chelsea are eager to bring in a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga this window to round off Frank Lampard’s lavish summer spending.

With two senior defenders through the door in the form of Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell, plus the imminent arrival of Kai Havertz, the Blues are almost ready for action. The only thing left on the club’s shopping list is a new goalkeeper, which is proving to be a difficult acquisition.

Lampard has had his eye on the likes of Jan Oblak to replace world record transfer Kepa. However, Atletico Madrid are standing firm on their asking price of the Slovenian’s £110million release clause.

Another man on the radar is Edouard Mendy, who Chelsea have already submitted a £15million bid for. According to The Telegraph (via The Mirror) though, Rennes want at least double that for them to consider letting the Senegal international leave.

Funds certainly haven’t been an issue for Chelsea so far, with Roman Abramovich recently apparently agreeing to splash a minimum of £150million on targets Chilwell, Havertz and Declan Rice. However, the Blues are looking to offload some senior personnel in order to balance the books.

N’Golo Kante is amongst those being dangled on the market, with a reported price tag of €50million (£44.1m). Selling the French midfielder alone would bring in the funds for Mendy and he should be viewed as a must-have target.

Steven Gerrard Liverpool

Gerrard made more appearances for Liverpool than Lampard did for Chelsea, true or false?

For the 2019/20 campaign, the 28-year-old averaged more long balls (7.8) and aerials won (0.7) than Kepa, with 4 and 0.2 respectively (via WhoScored).

Mendy also kept nine league sheets and conceded just 19 goals, whilst the Spaniard let in a worrying 47 goals, keeping eight clean sheets.
