Chelsea are reportedly in pole position to sign Bundesliga star Kai Havertz in the upcoming transfer window.
According to Nico Schira (relayed via Sportslens), the Blues lead the race for the 21-year-old’s signature and could snub a fellow Premier League side once again.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Havertz but Schira reports that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also ‘really interested’ in him. However, Chelsea are allegedly the favourites to snap him up this summer.
Who will sign Kai Havertz?
The Blues have already spent big bucks on adding Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to their ranks. It seems they’re not holding back with their business leading into next season and are looking to strengthen wherever and however they can.
Similarly to Werner, Havertz has seriously impressed in the German league this season, notching 12 goals and six assists in the Bundesliga, with 16 goals and nine assists across all competitions (via Transfermarkt). He also boasts the versatility to play both in midfield and on the wing, which will be beneficial for when Willian and Pedro leave the club at the end of the month.
Bayer Leverkusen aren’t willing to let Havertz leave Germany for cheap and seem to be sticking firm to their £90m asking price (via Daily Mail). It’s certainly a hefty amount to splurge on just one player but the 21-year-old has proven himself in front of goal and still has potential to improve even further. His talent and versatility could pay dividends for Chelsea and it’s no wonder they’re in pole position to chase him down.
It will be a tough battle as Manchester United are reportedly very keen on him but, with Champions League football looking likely, plus the option to link up with Werner, the Blues may have enough to coax Havertz to London.
