Another dramatic twist in the Kai Havertz tale has presented itself after Leroy Sane dropped a huge hint that a deal could be done.
During his unveiling at new club Bayern Munich, the winger let slip that his fellow German may have already made the move to Chelsea. Sane, who recently joined the Bavarians for £54.8m, started talking about the talent that has emerged from his native country over the years, and began discussing the Blues’ transfer business this season.
Could Chelsea win the Premier League next season?
“I think Germany has always had very good young German players,” the former Manchester City man told reporters. “Many young players get their chance and develop well in the Bundesliga. I think that with [Timo] Werner and [Kai] Havertz, two Germans in one year, Chelsea did a good job.” (via Daily Mail).
The Blues look to be the only club remaining in the race for Havertz’s signature and the transfer seems to be all but completed. A recent report claimed Marina Granovskaia had agreed personal terms with the midfielder, which will see him sign a five-year contract worth £7.3million per year (according to Nico Schira, via Express). The wages boil down to £140,000 per week, which puts Havertz near the top of Chelsea’s highest earners (via Spotrac).
If the move goes ahead, the 21-year-old will be Frank Lampard’d third attacking signing, joining Werner and Hakim Ziyech at Stamford Bridge next season.
