With Chelsea on a roll in the Premier League, they could be in a position to advance their talks in signing Kai Havertz.
It’s no secret that the Blues are eager to see the £90million-valued star come to London, but he is reportedly looking to play Champions League football next season. The 21-year-old has tallied 16 goals and nine assists for Bayer Leverkusen this season and it’s certainly not uncalled for to want to join a top club.
Chelsea undoubtedly have an attractive lure after already securing deals for Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, however it seems Havertz will be a tougher fish to catch. To maximise their chances of bagging his signature, they must continue their positive run.
Will Kai Havertz be a Chelsea player next season?
The German playmaker has attracted a lot of attention from Premier League clubs this summer, with Manchester United also interested in his services. Frank Lampard and his side could have landed themselves in the drivers seat though, following their impressive win over Manchester City.
Their 2-1 victory sees them edge another three points closer to their top four finish and an undoubtedly exciting 2019/20 season. As it stands, Chelsea will be playing in Europe next term as they currently sit fourth in the table on 54 points. They are just one behind Leicester, who they could leapfrog if the Foxes continue their disappointing form.
Havertz could see Stamford Bridge as an ideal destination, banking Champions League football as well as a potential title race in the Premier League. Roman Abramovich contacted the player directly, which shows the club are serious about adding him to their ranks this summer. If Chelsea weren’t already motivated to clinch UCL entry next campaign, they certainly will be now.
