Chelsea are reportedly close to welcoming their third signing of the summer transfer window through the doors at Stamford Bridge, following the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
According to a report from ESPN, Marina Granovskaia has been working her magic on summer transfer target Sergio Reguilon. The left-back is said to be Chelsea’s alternative to Ben Chilwell, who is commanding a mammoth fee in the wake of Harry Maguire’s mammoth £80m move to Manchester United.
Frank Lampard has identified his defence as an area of concern and is looking to strengthen his options in this window. Kepa Arrizabalaga seems to be the biggest issue, though, with the manager losing faith in the Spanish goalkeeper’s ability between the sticks.
The Blues have been handed a reported £120m budget from Roman Abramovich but the club are also hoping to offload some players to make up a bigger fund. Lampard has outlined that he is willing to sell Marcos Alonso, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and Emerson Palmieri this summer (via The Times).
Would Sergio Reguilon be a good signing for Chelsea?
If Alonso leaves the club, the Blues must push to sign a replacement left-back and the answer could be in Reguilon. ESPN claimed that Chelsea are favourites to secure a deal for the 23-year-old despite interest from Man United, Tottenham and Inter Milan.
Reguilon is currently on loan with Sevilla after emerging through Real Madrid’s academy system. Last season he made 31 La Liga appearances and contributed two goals and four assists (via Transfermarkt). He is reportedly available for about €25m (£22.4m) if the Blues pursue a permanent move.
Given his effectiveness as a creative outlet and the probable need to replace Alonso, Chelsea could do a lot worse than bringing in the 23-year-old from the Bernabeu.
