The Kai Havertz saga has become even more exciting after reports have claimed that Roman Abramovich has personally contacted the Bundesliga star.
Bayer Leverkusen’s top scorer has had several Premier League clubs chasing his signature but Chelsea are arguably in the strongest position to make a move happen.
According to Sport Buzzer (via Daily Express), the Blues have cranked their interest up a notch. Abramovich has reportedly reached out to Havertz to try to convince him to move to London this summer.
Will Kai Havertz end up at Chelsea next season?
The 21-year-old has rightfully turned heads this season, notching 15 goals and eight assists across all competitions with Bayer Leverkusen (via Transfermarkt).
Pursuing a move for Havertz will cost the Blues a hefty £90m but Abramovich is apparently willing to splash the cash on the German talent. However, the rising star is reportedly favouring a move to La Liga, so Abramovich must ensure he sells a convincing pitch if he wants to make this deal happen.
It’s certainly a compliment when the owner of a football club personally contacts you in order to try to convince you into joining their side. Havertz may be looking for a move to Spain but he could really establish himself as one of the best players in the Premier League if he joins Chelsea.
The Blues are undergoing an exciting transition with Frank Lampard and the 21-year-old will join other young stars in whom the manager has put his faith. Havertz will join Mason Mount in pulling the strings of the midfield and creating chances for the in-form Tammy Abraham.
Once Abramovich makes the call, the ball is very much in the German’s court, but it seems like a no-brainer to join a club on the rise and one that is clearly desperate to sign him.
